Parish School of Religion (PSR) for Grades 1-8

What is the purpose of PSR? PSR teaches the tenets, truths, and traditions of our Catholic faith to children who are not attending Catholic schools. The classes are the religious education to inform and explain what we believe and give children a solid foundation. We create a faith-filled and fun environment for children to learn and explore their Catholic faith while building community and lasting friendships. PSR supplements and complements parents, who are the first teachers of the faith for their children, and works in tandem with immediate preparation when the child is getting ready to receive a sacrament. NEW this year, families from all the parishes of Our Lady of Divine Providence are invited to participate together in a unified program!

PSR will meet from October 1 through April 21 for 2023-2024. Please see the calendar below for the days we are meeting and mark each on your family’s calendar. Consistent attendance will benefit your child and your child’s catechist to keep the continuity of lessons. It also is important for your family to be active members and attend Mass every Sunday to support and affirm what the children are learning.

We will meet in the Undercroft of St. Clare Church. Sunday mornings begin with prayer at 9:10am. Parents are invited to stay for prayer. After the prayer, the children are dismissed to their respective classes. The classes end at 10:15am. You can enter the undercroft via the Salvia Street door and parking is available on the street and in the parking lot off Salvia Street marked for St. Clare. On the first day of class, we will hold a parent meeting while the children are in class. Please make every effort to have at least one parent attend. Our text is Family of Faith Volume II, the Sacraments, by Sophia Institute. Please fill out the registration and permission forms and return them to the St. Clare Parish office by September 1. The cost for PSR this year is: one child = $40.00; two children = $50.00; three or more children = $60.00. Checks are payable to St. Clare Church.
